IMSG Data Visualization provides a bridge of understanding for scientific information to be presented to a wider audience. It transforms data products, such as satellite data, into scientific stories. By providing pictures or animations, including 3-D animations, our visualization can make complex concepts understandable and interesting. Visualization is an effective tool for demonstrating scientific principles for education.
IMSG operates the NOAA Visualization Laboratory in Silver Spring, Maryland. Lab scientists use satellite time series to visually depict the earth's changes over time. With this technique, it is easy to identify such phenomena as seasonal ice accumulation and melting, seasonal changes in ocean temperature, effects of global warming on ice coverage in Greenland, etc. This capability helps scientific programs to demonstrate geophysical phenomenon and facilitates analysis and communication of scientific results.
