National Weather Service forecasters expect light \nto moderate lake effect snow showers to continue throughout the day \ntoday and into Saturday (1\/7).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake-effect snow forms when cold air passes over the warmer waters of\n a lake. This causes some lake water to evaporate into the air and warm \nit. This warmer, wetter air rises and cools as it moves away from the \nlake. When it cools, it releases that moisture and, if it\u2019s cold enough,\n that moisture turns into snow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although true-color images like this may appear to be photographs of \nEarth, they aren\u2019t. They are created by combining data from the three \ncolor channels on the VIIRS instrument sensitive to the red, green and \nblue (or RGB) wavelengths of light into one composite image.
