05 Apr Severe Weather along the U.S. Gulf Coast
NOAA’s GOES East satellite produced this visible image of the large and powerful weather system over the southeast at 1515 UTC today, April 5, 2017.
According to the National Weather Service, intense supercell thunderstorms are expected to develop over parts of the region this afternoon. These storms pose a risk of strong tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds. As a result, the NWS’s Storm Prediction Center has issued a tornado watch for portions of southeast Alabama, the Florida panhandle, central and southwest Georgia and western South Carolina.
This image was created by combining visible channel data from NOAA’s GOES East satellite with NASA’s “Blue Marble” data set to create colorized images of atmospheric conditions over the region.
