COLLEGE PARK, MD – I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG) proudly announces that the NOAA Environmental Visualization Lab (VizLab), supported under the NOAA ProTech 2.0 Satellite Domain contract, has been featured in the NESDIS FY 2024 accomplishments article, NESDIS Reflects on FY 2024. This recognition highlights the IMSG team’s exceptional efforts in advancing NOAA’s mission through innovation and excellence.
The article emphasizes VizLab’s leadership in NESDIS’ drive toward cloud innovation. In 2024, NESDIS completed the first phase of migrating VizLab services to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud, finishing two months ahead of the September 30 deadline. By July 30, all assets—including virtual and physical computers in College Park, MD; Boulder, CO; and Silver Spring/Suitland, MD—were operational. This early completion allowed for additional testing, ensuring a seamless transition during the active hurricane season with minimal downtime.
The VizLab plays a pivotal role in transforming NOAA’s satellite, climate, and observational data into compelling visual tools such as animations, real-time maps, and 3D visualizations. These tools, widely utilized by media, educators, museums, and NOAA platforms like NOAA.gov and Climate.gov, provide critical insights into Earth’s climate, weather, oceans, and coasts.
In addition to its cloud migration success, the VizLab continues to support GIS and geospatial projects, including StoryMaps, Data in the Classroom modules, the Hurricane Tracker, and NOAA Satellite Maps services.
